Grand Restaurant
Gracious dining in the Grand Hotel. Settle down for a sophisticated supper in a dining room that's full of echoes from the world of yesterday. The Grand's masterly chef whisks up a range of delectable dishes, exploring both local and international cuisine. The friendly staff are sure to recommend some decent wines to wash it all down, and if you're in the mood, don't miss the chance to sample one of the region's delicious fruit liqueurs. The smartest option in town and ideal for a business, or better still, purely recreational encounter.

Bar Mleczny
Homely den with a rustic flavour This plainly titled 'Milk Bar' is a trusty option for a no-frills lunch. Haute cuisine it ain't, but what you will get is tasty,
traditional nosh in a cozy, unpretentious setting. If you like eating local when you're on holiday and getting an authentic flavour of everyday life in the
city, this is one to drop into. Root it out just round the corner from the fantastic Potocki Palace.

Kilikia
Armenian option in Old Lviv, Kilikia is squirreled away down a little side alley that runs off Virmenska (Armenian st.), one of the most beguiling stretches in the Old Town. Snatch an outdoor table and prepare for an intro into the unfamiliar (yet ingratiating) world of Armenian cuisine. During the colder seasons, a cosy baroque interior is on hand, and the waiter can offer you some fiery drinks to warm the cockles.

Vezha Kramariv
Tower of a restaurant in Old Lviv In this case, Vezha Kramariv ('The Guards Tower') is not such a fanciful name as it sounds. The hearty restaurant is spread across a carefully restored medieval bastion on the fringe of Lviv's Old Town. Unlike previous inhabitants of the tower, you needn't worry about having your dinner interrupted by a horde of invading Tatar warriors. Instead you can settle back in a huntsmens style interior and tuck into a variety of Ukrainian and European dishes. Regular jazz and classical concerts.

The Viennese Cafe
Upmarket haunt on Svobody. The reborn Viennese Cafe is a trusty port of call for both hungry and thirsty adventurers. This historic watering hole
originally opened in 1829 and the chef here rustles up a host of classic Austro-Hungarian dishes. For a hearty snack try the redoubtable sausages with
sauerkraut, whilst those after more refined confections also have plenty to choose from. The Viennese Cafe is just by the old Jesuit Church and on sunnier days chairs fan out across the terrace on Pidkovy Square.

New York Street Pizza
Cheerful pizzeria on a charming street. A New York themed pizzeria in Lviv may not be your number one choice if you're coming in search of something out of the ordinary. Nevertheless, this den gets our vote as a reliable and cheerful spot, especially if you've been having nothing but dumplings and goulash for a week. The pizzas may be the main feature but we also warmly recommend the salads. And if you've got a sweet tooth, the chocolate and banana pancakes are not to be sniffed at.

Dzyga Bar
Artists hangout on Virmenska. Artists have a knack of settling down in the most atmospheric spots in town and the Dzyga Crew don't buck the trend on this score. They've commandeered the northern end of the old Armenian Street and in Summer you can sit outside and watch the sun go down over the towers of the Armenian Cathedral. A joy.

Veronika
Cakes galore on Shevchenka. Veronika does a very decent cup of coffee but the star attractions here are the cakes. These artful confections
come in every variety under the sun - suffice it to say sweet toothed travellers have found the promised land here. Take your pick from one of the myriad options and soak up the amusingly schmaltzy Viennese style decor. An essential stop for cake aficionados.

Titanic
Sink some shots Titanic style. Step inside this elegant old townhouse and find yourself in an uncompromisingly kitsch set up where seadogs rule the roost. It's potty pizazz style all the way at Titanic where even the bar resembles the porthole side of some gallant aquatic vessel. Order up some vodka shots and enjoy the ride. One word of friendly advice though: make sure you don't slip on any blocks of ice when you walk out as Lviv winters are COLD. OK that was a terrible pun but the bit about the wild winter is true so wrap up warm folks!

The Viennese Cafe
Elegant cafe in central Lviv. Counting the number of 'Vienna cafes' across the world would be no mean feat, but this spot has a more authentic pedigree than most. The Viennese Cafe first opened here back in 1829 when Lviv (Lemberg) was one of the key cities in the Habsburg Empire. Emperor Frans
Josef would no doubt approve of the calibre of cakes on offer, although he would be a trifle alarmed by the fact that Austria is several hundred miles
west these days. The Summer terrace is a fine bonus.

The Italian Courtyard
Royal choice on the Rynok. It may not have quite been the effect that the Italian architects originally intended but this glorious cafe now resembles the set of a Duran Duran video. A smirking Simon le Bon may leap out from behind those white shower curtains at any moment. Sade's smooth operator tunes add to the eighties vibe of this artists favourite in the Royal Mansion, and you can order up a good range of beers, coffees and soft drinks. The famous Royal Mansion Museum upstairs makes this a popular pitstop.

Svit Kavy
Coffee, coffee and more coffee. Svit Kavy (The World of Coffee) is just that - a veritable compendium of the world's coffees all under one roof. It's
one of your more upmarket Old Town options, with a delightful location at the foot of the Latin Cathedral. Inside, a less is more approach in the decor
actually works well for once. Elegant polished wood furnishings and of course consistently good coffees make this a popular pit-stop for affluent locals and curious travellers.
